Falafels Review
- Ellen Tigh is the final cylon! Okay, so some people are underwhelmed, some people positively hate it...but personally I adore Ellen so I'm a very happy fan indeed. Ellen is a crazy whoreish fruitcake of a woman, but she's great character and Kate is a great actress. Of all the people who have died, I missed Ellen the most, even more than Billy or Kat. I loved the scene where Saul finds his Ellen again, fishing around in the irradiated ocean, digging her out of the rubble. These two characters are so frakked up, but they were so in love. Saul never stopped mourning Ellen. Now we are learning that their love was more profound than either of them imagined. I can't wait to find out what role Ellen has to play in this final part. Welcome back, Mrs Tigh!
- Okay, so now everytime a secondary character speaks the words "Previously on Battlestar Galactica..." I'll be fearing they are gonna die. I know BSG is going to end like a big scifi Shakesperian tragedy, but I hate all the death already.
- The cinematography and music in this episode were stunning! Maybe more stunning than they have ever been before. I love all the pale grainy shots of Earth and the dark murky shots of the Galactica with 'Frak Earth' scrawled on the walls. I loved the musical ripples of Anders guitar notes and Dee's humming. If they keep this up I think BSG 4.5 is going to be sublime.
- Roslin and Adama are killing me. Why do Eddie and Mary not have awards for these roles, huh? These two characters are the bedrock of the show and now they are crumbling and it's so gut-wrenching to see it. They can hardly even bring themselves to face their people after disappointing them so badly. Roslin burning the scriptures was horrific (but Laura as an atheist is going to be interesting!) Poor Bill. He's in agony, he has no hope, yet he is still trying to soldier on. Some retirement.
- I think I'm finally embracing the Chief as a cylon. I hope we get more flashbacks of him on Earth, at the market place...in those sexy specs. I hope we get more flashbacks of all the final five in their past lives. Anders was a musician? Yay, that's sexier than being a sports jock! So they all died in the earth apocalypse and were reborn? How did all this happen? More please.
- Leoben says "I was wrong." Destiny was wrong. Ha! I love it. And then Leoben wets his pants and runs away from scary Kara like a spooked rabbit. That made me giggle. Starbuck is less annoying than she was in 4.0. I loved the dark fiery visuals as she builds a funeral pyre for herself. Man, this show is messed up.
- It's BSG. When somebody points a gun at you, threatening to kill you, you will say "Go ahead! Do it!" Well Adama hasn't done this yet, but at least 20 other characters have done this on the show. It's just not intense anymore.
- Oh no, main characters are dying already *cries*. Godspeed Anastasia Dualla. She was so beautiful in this episode. I've missed her so far in S4 and now I'll have to get used to missing her. But I felt like Dee was restored to her old self in this episode and I didn't even mind the Lee/Dee shippy scenes. Some fans have complained that Dee's suicide was out of character, since she is normally the voice of reason in the show. The creepy thing is that suicide might actually be the sane option now. Dee's actions seemed so cool-headed and rational. It's like she calmly says to herself - Okay, Earth is a burnt out wasteland and I have no hope left, so I'm just going to make myself pretty and make myself happy one last time and then blow my brains out. That was the scariest thing for me. Dee didn't seem crazy or desperate. She acted like her suicide was the sensible thing to do. It was gutting when Lee changed the number on the white board.
- Oh Gaeta. Did you really need another reason to go crazy? Well, your best friend from the CIC just killed herself. No Felix you can't push Dee's brains back into her skull, but thanks for trying. Wow, Gaeta's mutinous looks towards the end of this episode were very tantalising, I must say. I really want me some badass!Gaeta.
- Awww. Helo and Athena are still happy playing with their little mutant baby girl. That was a nice relief from the despair. I'm not sure if they genuinely don't care about earth or they are just putting on a happy face for their kid, but either way it was lovely.
- Baltar was back in his science lab in his white coat! I didn't think we'd see that again. However I was a bit miffed that Baltar and Caprica-Six were in the same room together and there was no connection between them. They haven't been together since mid-S3. What gives? Is the history between them just water under the bridge now? And what about Head-Six? She was in the promo-pics but not the episode. I really hope there is some Baltar/Six story still to come.
- D'Anna is staying on Earth to sulk and starve to death?? Nooooo! She's the only Three left in the universe, so I guess this means she is leaving the story too *sniff* Okay, D'Anna wasn't as sympathetic as Dualla, but she was still a cool character. Oh BSG, you have given me so many great females and now you are taking them all away! Kill some of the boys next, okay? (but not Felix!)
- Wow, with all the strong turning weak and the good turning bad, Colonel Tigh is becoming a very unlikely hero and picking up the pieces for everyone. It was harrowing to see Saul taking the bottle away from Bill. Tigh's a tough old bastard. Gotta love him. I really want a Saul/Ellen reunion now. Tigh deserves a break.
Next week - MUTINY! That should be fun...
