Falafel's Review

- I think this'll be a shorter review than usual. It is getting harder to judge this show, so close to the end. It's like trying to review a movie that you're only part way through when you can't say for sure how they going to finish it. I probably won't review at all next week, but will wait to see 'Daybreak' in its complete form. I have a sense of what I think is going to happen. I do think we are headed towards the death of civilisation, the destruction of the fleet, a one way mission, etc. But I think the end of all things will somehow result in a new beginning, the start of a new cycle or at least a new generation. I don't know how that will happen, but I feel it's the right way to go.

- I love all the characters again. Why? Because they are dying. And for everything they did wrong, for all their mistakes, they have been courageous on this journey. I liked the funeral scene. It felt like everyone's funeral. Not just a mourning for those who have died but also for those who suspect they will be dying very soon. We also see Bill and Saul raising their glasses to the death of our girl Galactica. *sniffs* As Leo McGarry would say "She was a real dame, old friend. She was a real broad."

- Boomer, how do I love thee? Boomer's bond with Hera is so heartbreakingly perfect. Boomer was the first stolen daughter of the Galactica. She used to be one of the kids in the fleet. Then one day, in a moment of chaos that she didn't understand, Boomer was transported off the Galactica and onto a Cylon basestar. When Boomer found herself on that scary baseship, she screamed and she cried and she wanted to go home. But she could never go home. She could only ever project into her memories of the home and the people she had once loved. That is why Boomer cries for Hera. That is why Hera cries for Boomer.

- Roslin needs to get stoned more often. She is both kinder and wiser when she is toking.

- Personally I'm in support of Baltar revealling Kara's secret to everyone. I always thought the body back on Earth was a very important revelation - one that should not have been covered up. A non-cylon resurrection is something that everyone should know about. Because Kara does offer them a hope beyond death. And I want to believe Gaius when he suggests this will mean hope of new life and a second chance for everyone, not just the cylons and hybrids with their reboot technology. Because I still have a soft spot for the dirty humans, you know. Speaking of dirty humans, I totally love Starbuck again. Yes, she died, yes she burned her own corpse, but she is still our Kara Thrace. Now we have all seen Kara Thrace peeing. Our lives are complete.

- Helo made me weepy this episode. Admittedly I'm not a Helo fan even though this guy consistently gives me every reason to like and respect him. I've always thought Helo was the character with the best morals, but he is also the character with the least flaws and issues so that can make him rather boring. But damn, Helo does get upset over his family and it's always heartbreaking to see. Just take the damn Raptor, Helo. Frak your orders. I can't believe Adama refused him this after he abandoned his post and went on his "own suicide mission" to rescue Laura from the basestar.

- Ugh! Zak Adama has been dead from the start of the show and he still manages to be the most awful annoying character in BSG verse. Zak still gets more shoutouts and remembrances that any other character who has died. And hey, I actually care about the other deceased characters. I actually knew who they were!

- Ooh! I love Saul/Ellen. Weirdly enough they seem to have replaced Bill/Laura as the stable parent figures of the fleet. And, of course, they are the cylon mum and dad. It seems like everything that was human is being replaced by something cylon - the old Galactica being upgraded with cylon technology. Anders replacing Gaeta as the ships central nervous system and navigator. Maybe it will be survival for the cylon race and not the humans after all? Though I'm still certain Baltar will find a way to survive this. Gaius is too woobie to die. But then my mum thinks Baltar is Daniel.

- Hybrid Anders is both interesting and sad. Because it seems our Sam is truly dead. It must be tough for the fans of this character that Sam is gone and yet his body is still there, functioning as a machine. I can understand Kara's urge to shoot him and preserve her memory of the person who her husband used to be.

- Lee still seems sadly pointless. I guess he might play a bigger role in the grand finale. I can imagine Adama and Roslin will be taking a backseat on this last mission and in their place Lee will take the role of President while Kara will take over as the Commander. They've been groomed for it.

- A lot of my fellow Gaeta fans have been wanting to see evidence of Felix's picture on the remembrance wall. Honestly, I don't know how I feel about this. Felix is the only member of the Galactica crew to ever be formally executed. I assume he recieved no military funeral with flags and salutes, etc. Would Adama allow his picture to be displayed? I can see reasons why it might not be there. For my own fanon...I think someone put Felix's picture on the wall. A picture of him in his uniform, when he was young, before he lost his leg. A picture to remind them of who Felix really was - a loyal soldier, the navigator who plotted almost all of their jumps, the tactical officer who got them off of New Caprica, the idealist who wanted to do the right thing. So I think his picture is there and I think that people realise. I can't imagine the writers would include that final Gaius/Felix scene if they didn't want Felix to get his last wish, even though being forever misunderstood would add to Felix's tragedy.

- There was a strange whisper of Gaeta in the scene where Adama took off his stars and held them in a shaky hand, just like Gaeta did when he was getting ready to surrender. For all my daddy issues with Adama I did love him bitching about destiny! But then the scene with Bill throwing white paint on the wall echoed Kara's dream in Maelstorm when she was trying to paint over her "destiny" and found that she couldn't stop it. I'll reserve my judgement until the final act to see whether I approve of the Gods, angels, opera houses and destinies of the BSG universe.

- *damn* See you in two weeks then. I can't believe it'll be over then!
